It’s Our 30th Birthday!
CJ Timms are so excited to have reached our thirtieth anniversary this June, highlighting 30 fantastic years of growth, industry development, an incredible team and lots and lots of amazing clients we’ve been so lucky to work with! With 30 years under our belt, we’re proud to have become one of the most experienced, knowledgeable and trustworthy electrical contractors across the Midlands; so let’s celebrate!
Our History
With a rich heritage and strong family ties, the Timms have passed the ‘electric’ gene down for over 100 years now! The family tree of electricians starts with the Timms’ Great Grandad, Jarvis, who became the first electrician many many years ago. Then, moving down to William Timms. William, more fondly known as Eric, seconded during World War 2 to Rolls Royce to make electrical wiring looms for military vehicles. With this experience, he set up and started Timms Roe with Tommy Roe, specialising in electrical installations. Chris Timms was next, carrying out an electrical apprenticeship under his dad Eric at Timms Roe, where he worked for various companies including a year in Dubai working on the construction of the harbour. This is where CJ Timms was born, with Chris starting up CJ Timms in 1990 and then officially becoming a limited business in 1992! Roger and Russel were next to join the family business also in 1992, becoming the Managing Director and Director in 2008, then rebranding CJ Timms into the commercially astute and led business it is today.
Our Journey
We’re proud to have learnt, grown and made a difference throughout our last 30 years in business. Chris having started CJ Timms out on his own, to Russ and Roger joining in 1992 as the business grew. Did you know that we started off running the business from a narrow boat? We then moved on to a container office and upgraded to our current office building in 2016.
Exactly 10 years ago, for our 20th anniversary, we branched out to try something new. We brewed our very own beer, ‘Timmsie’s Tipple’!
Throughout our history, we have always believed in training up our own staff, seeing five apprentices fully qualified with our current two apprentices, Matt and Riley, working well towards the same achievement! It’s a great reward watching our team grow and progress to become the exceptional electricians they are today.
Industry Changes Over the Years
Over the years, we’ve seen plenty of positive changes to the UK rules, regs and legislations, with the 1st edition of the “Rules and Regulations for the prevention of Fire Risk Arising from Electric Lighting” being published in 1882. Following in 1992, the year CJ Timms was born, was the IET Wiring Regulations, then 16th edition was adopted by the British Standards Institute, since then there has been two editions and no fewer than 7 amendments.
CJ Timms continue to develop our staff through training and courses so that we are always able to provide safe, accurate and compliant advice and workmanship to our customers.
